The Europa League qualification rounds are over, and the draw has been made for the group stages, which begin in September. We have some good teams in the group stages, alongside some smaller teams who will relish the chance to be a giant killer.
Group A
Villarreal is the headline act in Group A and will surely qualify as winners from this group. I think we will see a fight between Slavia Prague and Maccabi Tel Aviv for the second spot, with Prague coming out on top and that will leave FC Astana in the last place. Slavia Prague and Maccabi Tel Aviv are tough away trips for Villarreal, but they have enough quality to win against them.
Group B
This group is tight, and the top spot will go to one of Dynamo Kiev, Young Boys, and Partizan Belgrade. I am going to pick Young Boys to win the group. They know what it takes to win at this level, with Dynamo Kiev coming second, Partizan Belgrade coming third and Skenderbeu coming last in the group. This bunch should be one of the most contested categories this season, and I can’t wait to watch these teams play each other.
Group C
Hoffenheim and Istanbul Basaksehir are going to fight it out for the top spot in Group C. Hoffenheim are the better team. However, Istanbul is a callous place to play, and because of that, I am going to back them to win the group. That will leave Hoffenheim in second place, Braga in the third position and Ludogorets finishing last in the group. This scuffle between the top two teams in this group should be exciting to watch.
Group D
AC Milan is the big team in this group and is one of the current favorites to win the Europa League. They have been handed an easy group, which I expect them to win very easily. They will be ahead of Austria Vienna who will finish second, AEK Athens who I think will come third and finally HNK Rijeka I expect to get last.
Group E
In Group E we have an English club Everton taking on Lyon and Atalanta in what should be a great clash. Any one of these three clubs could win the group, and it is going to be a great battle. I am going to side with Lyon to win the group, with Everton coming second, Atalanta third and minnows Apollon Limassol finishing bottom of the group. For me, this is the best group out of every single one, and I can’t wait to watch the games from this team, particularly since the group comes to an end, and teams have a lot to play for.
Group F
FC Copenhagen and Lokomotiv Moscow will battle it out to win Group F, and I think Lokomotiv Moscow will come out on top. They will win the group, with FC Copenhagen in second place, FC Fastav Zlin coming third and Sheriff Tiraspol coming fourth. I am giving Moscow an advantage because it is a tough place to visit and I think they can win all of their home games.
