Week 6 kicked off with a doozy of a match, with Southampton playing against Bournemouth at St. Mary’s Stadium, the former’s home ground. The match ended with an away victory of 3 – 1 in Bournemouth’s favor, making this one Eddie Howie’s 50th League match victory. They got off to a great start, finding the net twice in the first half and once more in overtime. Despite their best efforts, Southampton couldn’t keep up, only scoring one goal in the second half.
Saturday, September 21st
On Saturday, we saw Leicester City face off against Tottenham Hotspur at King Power Stadium, an entertaining game that ended in a home win. It seemed as though the game would end in a draw, bet then seemingly out of nowhere, James Maddison scored an absolute beauty of a goal, making the final score was 2-1.
Next, Burnley took on a newly promoted team in Norwich City. Norwich had a hard time finding their footing amongst England’s most beautiful. It was a comfortable victory for the Clarets, with Chris Wood scoring two goals within the first fifteen minutes, cementing their success.
Sheffield United also won their first away game against Everton and found themselves on the 8th spot on the table, quite clear of the relegation zone. When the match ended, it was a 0-2, after Carl Bradshaw and Glyn Hodges scored some remarkable goals.
Next came Manchester City’s match against Watford. Manchester City was looking to redeem themselves after their recent loss against Norwich City, and redeem themselves they did. They won 8 - 0, and five of those were scored within the first twenty minutes. Bernardo Silva even manages to squeeze in a hattrick.
The next match Newcastle and Brighton was a little more mundane, with the match ending with no goals on either side.
Sunday, September 22nd
On the 22nd, West Ham United took on Manchester United at their home ground, London Stadium to secure a 2-0 win. All thanks to Andriy Yarmolenko and Aaron Cresswell. Manchester United was affected by injuries, and thus, had a mediocre performance.
We saw another draw this week when Crystal Palace took on the Wolves, which ended in a dramatic 1-1 tie. Wolves had lost all hope when Crystal Palace scored during the second half of the match, but Diogo Jota managed to save his team by fining the net during extra time, evening out the scores.
The match between Arsenal and Aston Villa was a lot less one-sided than most previously anticipated. Both sides put on a good fight, and regardless of a shaky start, at the end of the day, it was Arsenal’s day. Following this, the Gunners snagged the 4th place on the table.
The week ended on quite a banger when Liverpool won their 15th consecutive match this season against Chelsea 1 – 2. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino contributed to the victory, and although Kante was brilliant. The Blues proved to be no match for The Reds, who remain at the top of the table.
