Somehow managed to throw It all away and lose by the margin of 3-0, just enough for Roma to go through to the semi-finals. However, Barcelona will now step up their pursue the La Liga title and will undoubtedly go for all three points, to heal the fresh wounds.
History
Both teams have 36 games against each other where Barcelona is more successful with 19 victories opposed to Valencia’s five victories while 12 matches have finished without a winner.
The teams have already met three times this season, twice in Copa del Rey which ended with a 3-0 aggregate score to Barsa and a 1-1 La Liga match at Mestalla.
Barcelona
Ernesto Valverde’s side has been dominating La Liga this year, and they already enjoy 11 points lead to Atletico Madrid at 2nd place. However, this match is more than a chance to extend the lead. The manager and the players will have to hit the court for the first time after the Champions League exit, and anything other than victory would be unsatisfactory for the fans.
Ivan Rakitic should be the only absentee after suffering a broken finger against Roma on Tuesday, while Lucas Digne might find his way back in the starting line-up after sitting the last couple of games out with an injury.
Valencia
The Bats have won 9 out of 10 in La Liga and are 1st place in the current form of all teams on the table. Their manager Marcelino Garcia seems to have finally established a deadly attacking duo in Rodrigo and Zaza, with the pair scoring 8 of their last nine goals.
The glory days are finally back at Valencia, and there is a good chance that after three years, Champions League football will be welcomed back at Mestalla, next year.
Ex-Arsenal man, Francis Coquelin is the only one out with an Achilles injury.
Prediction
With Valencia in terrific form and Barcelona still having fresh in mind the deplorable defeat at Olimpico Stadium, this game might turn into a real goal fiesta.
Barsa will unleash full power from the very start, and Valencia will undoubtedly be ready and try to hit them on the counter-attack. Having this in mind, both teams to score and over 2.5 goals is probably the safest bet. Tags :
