The Premier League Golden Boot is one of the most illustrious awards in European football. Tottenham and England striker Harry Kane has won the award in consecutive campaigns and will be looking to make it a hat-trick of wins by claiming the award in the 2017/18 campaign.
However, he will have a number of competitors for the award in the new season. Here are the players who will expect to be competing for the title of top scorer in the English top-flight in season 2017/18:
Harry Kane (Tottenham)
The Tottenham striker has been a goal machine in the top-flight in recent seasons. Last season he scored 29 goals in just 30 appearances in the Premier League. The 23-year-old will fancy his chances of winning it once again in the new campaign.
He is currently the favourite with the bookmakers to win the award and can be backed at odds of 3/1 with Bet Victor to triumph once again.
Romelu Lukaku (Manchester United)
The big Belgian international looked the favourite to win the Golden Boot towards the end of last season, only for Kane to hit form in the last few weeks and steal the award. At Everton, he scored 25 Premier League goals and earned himself a big money move to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils created a lot more chances than Everton last season and Lukaku can be devastating on his day. The 24-year-old cannot be written off in next season’s race and is odds of 9/2 with Coral to beat Kane to the award this time around.
Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)
The little Argentine has been a Premier League goalscorer sensation during his six-year City career. In fact, no other player has scored more goals in the English top-flight than Aguero in the last four seasons.
The 29-year-old was out-of-favour with City boss Pep Guardiola at one point last season. However, he still scored 20 times in 31 appearances in the top-flight. His goalscoring history suggests he will carry on scoring goals for the Citizens and is available at odds of 6/1 at Bet365.
Gabriel Jesus (Manchester City)
Jesus moved to Manchester City last summer but stayed with Palmeiras until the January transfer window. The 20-year-old proved to have a massive impact, before sustaining an injury in February that sidelined him for over two months.
His return of seven goals in nine Premier League appearances was impressive for such a young player in a foreign league. The amount of goals the starlet scores in the new campaign could depend on whether he plays as a central striker or in a wide position.
The Brazilian international could definitely be an interesting outsider to claim the accolade and is available at odds of 9/1 at Bet365.
Other honourable mentions
A number of other players could also be in the mix, but for a variety of reasons are not considered favourites to win the award. Two of those players are Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez and Chelsea’s Diego Costa.
Both players could leave their respective clubs and the Premier League this summer. Sanchez is also likely to operate out wide next season for the Gunners, with club-record signing Alexandre Lacazette set to take the central striking role in north London.
The French striker could be a contender for the accolade, but there are doubts about the 26-year-old’s ability to match his prolific scoring rate in the Premier League.
